Western Texas College Hires Nathan Purswell as Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Snyder-TX — Western Texas College has named Nathan Purswell as the new head coach of the women's basketball program.
A Borger, Texas native, Purswell brings over a decade of coaching experience at the junior college level. He spent the last eight seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Coastal Bend College (2017–2025), where he led the program to its first-ever regional tournament appearance in 2018–19 and qualified for regionals four times total. Under his leadership, the program produced 12 All-Conference players and 9 NJCAA Academic Honor recipients, with a graduation rate exceeding 90% and more than 20 student-athletes advancing to play at four-year institutions.
Purswell previously served as an assistant coach for the women's and men's teams at Frank Phillips College (2013–2017), helping guide teams to winning seasons and coaching two NJCAA Academic All-Americans.
He holds a Master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University–Irvine, a Bachelor's in General Studies from West Texas A&M University, and an Associate of Science from Frank Phillips College, where he was a standout student-athlete. While at Frank Phillips, he was named Academic Plainsmen of the Year (2008–09), earned NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American honors, and served as Vice President of Phi Theta Kappa.
