Bio

Walters begins his first year as Rodeo Coach at Western Texas College, bringing a strong background in collegiate rodeo leadership, competitive success, and a passion for developing student-athletes.

A four-time qualifier for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), Jacob built an impressive collegiate rodeo career while attending Howard College, Texas Tech University, and Eastern New Mexico. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Agricultural Communications, Agricultural Leadership, and Organizational Leadership. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sports Administration to further strengthen his leadership and coaching expertise.

During his time in collegiate rodeo, Jacob demonstrated a commitment to leadership beyond the arena, serving as National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Student President. In that role, he represented student-athletes across the country, advocated for collegiate rodeo programs, and worked alongside industry leaders to promote and strengthen the sport.

In addition to coaching, Jacob remains active in professional rodeo as a PRCA Rookie, continuing to compete while mentoring the next generation of rodeo athletes. His firsthand experience at both the collegiate and professional levels allows him to provide valuable insight into the dedication, discipline, and work ethic required for success in and out of the arena.

As Rodeo Coach at Western Texas College, Jacob is committed to building a competitive program while fostering leadership, integrity, academic achievement, and personal growth among his student-athletes. His coaching philosophy emphasizes hard work, accountability, and preparing students for success both during their collegiate careers and beyond.

Jacob resides in Colorado City, Texas, giving him strong ties to the local communities surrounding Snyder and Western Texas College. His familiarity with the region, and its deep-rooted rodeo tradition provides a meaningful connection to the student-athletes and families he serves. Jacob looks forward to investing in the community while leading the Western Texas College Rodeo Team and continuing the program's tradition of excellence.
