Plainview, TX – The Western Texas College baseball team (13-33, 10-18) split a high-scoring doubleheader with Amarillo College, falling 8-7 in game one before bouncing back with an 18-15 win in game two.
Game One
Western Texas jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning. Caven Fuentes singled to center field and Dylan Malone doubled down the right field line, each driving in two runs.
Amarillo responded by tying the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning following a home run, then added three more runs in the sixth to take an 8-5 lead.
Sebastian Llamozas provided a late spark with a two-run home run in the seventh, but the Westerners couldn't complete the comeback, falling 8-7.
Game Two
The Westerners answered in a big way in game two, outlasting Amarillo in an 18-15 offensive battle that featured 36 combined hits.
Llamozas opened the scoring with a solo home run, and Marcelo Torres added a two-run shot in the fourth to give Western Texas a 4-0 lead.
Amarillo chipped away and exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-7 lead after trailing 7-2.
Western Texas regained control in the seventh, scoring five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run from Llamozas to make it 12-8.
Amarillo answered again in the eighth to take a 13-12 lead, but the Westerners delivered the final blow in the ninth. Western Texas plated six runs, capped by a three-run home run from Torres on an 0-2 count to secure the 18-15 victory.
Torres finished with two home runs, while Llamozas homered multiple times across the doubleheader.
