Dean Scores 22 in Western Texas College Loss at McLennan
Waco, TX — The Western Texas College Westerners (1-3) traveled to Waco, TX, on Wednesday to take on the McLennan Community College Highlanders.
Calven Charles got the Westerners on the board first with a catch-and-finish inside. Isak Homelius followed with a pair of free throws, and Justin McCall knocked down a three-pointer to give WTC an early 8–5 lead.
However, the Highlanders quickly answered, taking an 11–8 advantage and closing the half ahead 41–29.
In the second half, Viktor Bystrom opened the scoring with an offensive rebound and putback to bring WTC within ten. Charles later completed a three-point play to make it 54–47, but despite the Westerners' push, McLennan responded with a 5–0 run to stretch the lead back to double digits. The Highlanders went on to secure a 77–65 win over the Westerners.
Zayier Dean led Western Texas College with a season-high 22 points, going 6-of-11 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. Justin McCall added 13 points and six rebounds, while Calven Charles posted 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Isak Homelius chipped in 9 points, and Viktor Bystrom finished with 4 points and 6 boards.
The Westerners shot 37% from the field and 81% from the line but were limited by 17 turnovers in the loss.
