Plano, TX— Men's basketball split its weekend slate in Plano, falling to No. 14 Angelina College 67–61 before edging Lee College 62–58.
On Friday against Angelina, the Westerners opened strong, taking a 10–5 lead in the first five minutes and carrying a 35–31 halftime advantage. WTC stretched the lead to 48–37 early in the second half, but the Roadrunners rallied and moved ahead 51–50 with seven minutes remaining before closing out the game.
Justin McCall led the Westerners with 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers on 6 of 13 shooting. Calven Charles added a double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Zayier Dean contributed 11 points and 5 assists, while Anesu Dehwe finished with 7 points and 3 rebounds. As a team, WTC shot 36.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, while going 18 of 27 from the free-throw line.
On Saturday afternoon, WTC bounced back against Lee College. The Navigators built an early 11–7 lead and held a 33–25 advantage at the break. The Westerners responded in the second half, taking a 46–41 lead with 10 minutes left. Lee briefly regained a 58–57 lead with 2:35 remaining, but WTC closed the game with key defensive stops to earn the 62–58 win.
Dean paced the Westerners with 13 points, shooting 11 of 12 from the line while also dishing out 7 assists. Charles added 9 points and 7 rebounds, and Viktor Bystrom chipped in 8 points and 5 boards.
