Homelius Leads Western Texas Past No. 5 Midland, 89–74
Snyder, TX — Isak Homelius poured in a game-high 32 points as Western Texas College pulled off an 89–74 upset of No. 5 Midland College on Thursday night.
How We Got There
Western Texas built early separation behind strong ball movement and efficient shooting. The Westerners knocked down six first-half three-pointers, with makes from Homelius, Justin McCall, Rayan Fadika, Anesu Dehwe, and Jalen Brown. Capitalizing on Midland turnovers and trips to the free-throw line, Western Texas pushed the lead into double digits midway through the half. Jalen Brown's late three capped the opening period as the Westerners carried a 44–28 advantage into halftime.
Western Texas shot 56.0% from the field and 50.0% from three in the first half. Homelius led all scorers with 20 first-half points, connecting on 4-of-7 from deep and 6-of-7 at the line. Fadika added 8 points on 3-of-4 shooting, while Dehwe chipped in 5 points and 4 rebounds. The Westerners totaled 9 assists and held a 16–13 rebounding edge in the opening 20 minutes.
Homelius continued to spark the offense after the break with timely threes and aggressive drives to the basket. Fadika added another key three, and Western Texas kept pressure on Midland by winning the battle on the glass and converting second-chance opportunities.
