Carson Hammond is entering his 3rd season as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Western Texas College.  During his first 2 years at WTC he has helped 5 players move on to play at the Division 1 level.  

 

During the 24-25 season, the Westerners had 2 wins against NJCAA Top 25 teams.  The 24-25 team also had 1 player named All Conference Honorable Mention.  The 24-25 team finished 18th in the Country Defensively.  The Westerners also had a 2nd team Academic All-American with a 3.89 GPA. 

 

During the 2023-24 season WTC had 4 wins against NJCAA Top 25 teams.   During the 23-24 season the Westerners were named one of the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Academic teams of the year.  Three players from the 23-24 team were named to an All Conference Team. .  

 

Prior to coming to WTC, Hammond was an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Howard College for one season. The team had a 19-11 record and was ranked as high as #8 in the country. Hammond coached 6 guys that signed to play at Division 1 Universities. He also coached a 2nd team NJCAA All-American. 

 

 Hammond also started his playing career at Western Texas College. He played at WTC during the 2018-19 season as well as the 2019-2020 season. Hammond was a part of the 2019-20 team that beat the #3 team in the country and advanced to the NJCAA Region V Semifinals. That team was ranked as high as #11 in the country and was nationally ranked for 5 weeks. Hammond finished his playing career at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. During his 2 seasons at UMHB, they won the ASC Regular Season Championship twice and the ASC Conference Tournament once. They advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite 8 during his senior season. Hammond shot 48% from 3 during his senior season, the 2nd highest 3-point percentage in the entire NCAA. Hammond was also named ASC Honorable Mention during his senior season. During the 2021-22 season, Hammond was named to the All ASC Academic team and selected to the NABC Honors Court. 

 

Hammond graduated from Belton High School in Belton, Texas, in 2017. He holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Western Texas College as well as a Bachelor of Science in Sports

 

Management from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Coach Hammond is from Belton, Texas.
