Men's Golf: No. 8 Westerners at Andrews Collegiate AM

Andrews, TX – The No. 8-ranked men's golf team turned in a sixth-place finish this past weekend at the Andrews Collegiate AM, led by Jiri Kinnunen and Mason Hicks.

Kinnunen paced the Westerners at 4-under par, sparked by a first-round 67 that featured five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 7th. Hicks stayed consistent with rounds of 70–71, highlighted by four birdies on his opening nine in round one, closing the event at 3-under.

George Edwards added a 1-under finish (73–70), rolling in an eagle on the par-5 4th during round two. Huey Thowson carded 70–75 to finish 1-over, starting hot with back-to-back birdies on the front nine.

Max Vergara improved in round two with a 73, collecting three birdies on the back nine after an opening 77.

Competing individually, Thomas Nesbitt shot 75–77, highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 8th.

The Westerners posted a 9-under team score.

Western Texas will return to competition on Monday, September 15, at the Waco River Classic hosted at Bear Ridge Golf Club in Waco, Texas.
