Westerners Finish Ninth at South Central District Championship
San Antonio, TX – The Westerners men's golf team competed at the South Central District Championship, a two-day event featuring 13 institutions. Fourth-ranked McLennan CC claimed the team title with a score of 845 (-19). The tournament was played on a par-72 course measuring 7,044 yards.
The Westerners finished ninth overall with a team score of 883 (296, 293, 294), maintaining consistent play throughout the event.
Jiri Kinnunen led the Westerners, tying for 19th place with a 220 (75, 71, 74). He highlighted his second round with four birdies three coming on the back nine and added three more birdies in the final round. After opening his final round at +3, Kinnunen battled back to even par, including a key birdie on the 16th hole. He also tied for third in the field with 37 pars.
George Edwards followed closely, finishing with a 221 (74, 74, 73). He closed strong in the final round, recording seven birdies.
Oscar Freeman placed 29th with a 222 (77, 73, 72). After a +5 start in round one, Freeman steadily improved, finishing one over in round two and even par in the final round. He surpassed his previous season-high in birdies, finishing with 11.
Huey Thowson opened the tournament with an even-par round, highlighted by four birdies. He recorded an eagle in the final round on a 570-yard par 5 the longest eagle by any player on the team.
Gustav Holmberg tied for 47th with a 229 (75, 79, 75), finishing with seven birdies.

The Westerners excelled on par 5s, finishing 11-under as a team.
