Rhodes Steps Down After 29 Years
Snyder, TX — Head Coach Greg Rhodes is stepping down after 29 years as the rodeo coach at
Western Texas College to accept a head coaching position with the Oklahoma Wildcatters of
Professional Bull Riders.
Rhodes joined Western Texas College in 1996 and helped build and sustain a tradition that
established the program as one of the most competitive in the nation.
During his 29-year tenure, Rhodes led the Westerners to 27 appearances at the College
National Finals Rodeo (with no event held during the COVID year, and this season marked the
28th appearance. Under his leadership, the program produced 28 National and Reserve
National Champions across team and individual events. In comparison, the first 25 years of the
program produced just nine National and Reserve National Champions.

● Coached multiple PRCA World Champions
● Mentored numerous PBR competitors
● During the inaugural PBR Teams season, five of the seven riders drafted by the Missouri
Thunder had ties to Rhodes and his program.
Western Texas College athletic staff will begin a national search for the program's next head
rodeo coach.
