Snyder, TX – Looking to bounce back from a 2-2 tie on Friday, the Western Texas College men's soccer team returned to Weaver Field for its home opener on Sunday afternoon taking on Blinn College.
The Westerners created plenty of opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net, falling 2-0 to Blinn College after conceding a pair of second-half goals.
WTC outshot the Buccaneers 13-9 and held an 8-5 edge in shots on target, but Blinn's goalkeeper came up with eight saves to deny the Westerners.
Hector Montoya paced the attack with four shots, including two on frame. Myles Taylor added two shots on goal, while Gael Barragan, Max Moorahrend, and Christian Georgi also forced saves. In net, Brian Garcia played the full 90 minutes, recording three stops.
Despite the result, the Westerners matched Blinn in corner kicks (6-6) and fouls (12-12).
With the setback, Western Texas moves to 1-1-1 on the season. The Westerners continue their home stand on Wednesday, August 27th, when they host Eastern Arizona College at 1:00 PM at Weaver Field.
