Cross Country at NMJC Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational
Hobbs, NM – The Westerners competed in their fourth meet of the 2025 cross country season at the Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational, hosted by New Mexico Junior College at Harry McAdams Park. The women's team placed 5th overall with a score of 126 and an average time of 22:35, while the men's team earned 3rd place with an average time of 26:56.
The women's race began at 9 a.m. Cierra Garcia led the team with a season-best 19:32 Placing her 8th. She was followed by Yuriana Hernandez (22:36, 29th), Genesis Serratos (23:04), Zoe Zepeda (23:45), and Madison Stem-Regalado (23:56).
On the men's side, John Alcantar paced the Westerners with a personal-best time of 26:29, good for 11th place. Right behind him was Kyle Trantham in 13th (26:51). Gage Harris (16th, 26:55), Dan Ortiz (17th, 26:58), and Isaiah Garcia (22nd, 27:36) packed closely together.
Christiano San Martin followed in 26th (27:49), and Fabian Ruiz rounded out the lineup with a 30th-place finish in 28:00.
After the meet, the coaching staff shared their thoughts:"The coaching staff is satisfied with the efforts that the team showed today. The women's team competed the best they have this season. The men's team had different individuals step up from Texas Tech. Seven out of eight of the men ran a personal record. As a team, we are headed in the right direction as we start putting things together for the end of the season."
The Westerners will return to action on Saturday, October 11, at the DBU Old Glory Gallop in Fort Worth, TX.
