Westerners record personal bests at DBU
Fort Worth , TX – The Western Texas College cross country team competed this past Saturday at the DBU Old Glory Gallop hosted by Dallas Baptist University. The event featured 40 programs from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA levels.
On the men's side, Western Texas placed 17th overall out of 40 teams, led by freshman Hayden Scott, who ran a personal-best time of 25:24.7 to finish 64th. Freshman Kyle Trantham followed closely behind with a personal record of 25:52.5, while John Alcantar (26:07.4) and Jason Dodd (26:09.0) also clocked lifetime bests. Rounding out the scoring runners were Isaiah Garcia (26:27), Gage Harris (26:37), and Dan Ortiz (26:47), all recording personal records as well. Sophomore Fabian Ruiz notched his season-best performance at 26:38.8, and Christiano San Martin crossed the line at 27:24.8.
In the women's 5k, freshman Cierra Garcia led the Lady Westerners with a personal-record time of 18:37.8, placing 43rd overall. Sophomore Genesis Serratos and freshman Zoe Zepeda turned in season-best performances at 22:02.3 and 22:56.7, respectively. Freshman Yuriana Hernandez finished at 22:53.4.
The coaching staff was pleased with the team's performance, stating, "This was a big meet with top competition, and our athletes handled the challenge with maturity and toughness. Most of our runners came away with personal or season-best performances, which is exactly what we want heading into the postseason."
Next up, Western Texas College will travel to Hobbs, New Mexico, to compete in the NJCAA Region 5 Championships on Saturday, October 25.
