Westerners Record Best Regional Finishes Since 2021
Hobbs, NM – Western Texas College Cross Country headed the NJCAA Region V Championships on Saturday morning, hosted by New Mexico Junior College.
The women's team tied their best finish since 2023.Leading the way was freshman Cierra Garcia, who placed 15th with a time of 19:12 to earn a qualifying spot for the NJCAA National Championships. Following Garcia was Yuriana Hernandez in 41st place at 22:02, while Madison Stern-Regalado and Zoe Zepeda crossed the line in 47th and 48th, respectively.
On the men's side, the Westerners earned their best regional result since 2021, finishing fourth out of eight teams—just two points behind South Plains College, who placed third.Jason Dodd led the team with a 13th-place finish in 24:40, followed by Hayden Scott (18th, 25:05) and John Alcantar (19th, 25:19). Rounding out the scoring runners were Gage Harris (31st, 25:58) and Isaiah Garcia (34th, 26:10), giving the men's squad a team average of 25:26.
