SNYDER, TX — Lady Westerners softball team (14-8, 0-0 ) swept the Lamar Community College on Sunday, winning 8-0 and 2-1.
Game 1:
Western Texas struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Laney Vasquez doubled to center field and Anely Paz followed with a single to left, each driving in a run to give the Lady Westerners an early 2-0 lead.
The offense erupted again in the third. Briyana Medina singled home a run before Karissa Juarez launched a three-run homer to left field to stretch the advantage to 6-0.
Madison Roberts was dominant in the circle, tossing five shutout innings. The sophomore right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Juarez led the offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Vasquez, Honey Morales, and Juarez each recorded two hits..
Game 2:
Western Texas got on the board in the second inning on a fielder's choice by Paz. Lamar tied the game in the fourth, but the Lady Westerners answered late.
In the bottom of the sixth, Juarez delivered again, singling home the go-ahead run to break a 1-1 tie.
Hailee Pena started in the circle, allowing one unearned run on three hits over four innings while striking out two. Sabrie Sanchez was strong in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits while striking out two without a walk.
Juarez finished Game 2 going 2-for-3 to lead the team in hits.
