Lady Westerners Sweep in WTC Classic

Snyder, TX - Western Texas women's basketball (3-6, 0-0 WJCAC) held the WTC Classic at the WTC Coliseum on the weekend of November 21st-23rd.

The Lady Westerners welcomed other collegiate women basketball programs to Snyder for a three-day basketball event. Western Texas was scheduled to play two games throughout the weekend with Temple College on Thursday and Coastal Bend on Saturday. 

WTC Temple College, 48-44

Western Texas began the event with an incredibly competitive contest against the Leopards. The Lady Westerners went on to score 12 points while Temple scored ten in each of the first two quarters. In the final two two quarters, both sides scored 12 points which allowed Western Texas to eke out a four point victory, 48-44. 

Kendall Clark was all over the court as she earned a double-double with her 15 points and came down with twelve rebounds. Jasmin Holt was a game changer with her eight assists, seven points and eight rebounds. Mia Riley collected six points, an assist and a steal. The Lady Westerners won their first appearance at the WTC Classic against Temple. 

WTC vs Coastal Bend, 65-48 

In a more commanding victory, Western Texas defeated Coastal Bend by 17 points. It was a slow start as the Cougars outscored the Westerners in the first quarter by one point, 13-14. The Lady Westerners returned the favor in the second to tie the affair by halftime, 32-32. Western Texas came out of the break strong as they outscored Coastal Bend by ten in the third quarter, 55-45. The home side nearly shut out the visiting Cougars in the final quarter holding them to three points to ice the victory, 65-48. 

Holt led the both sides in scoring by a hefty margin with 21 points and 13 rebounds to earn a double-double. Essania Landers was a key contributor at the free throw line as she went 4-4, collected four rebounds and ten points. Hanne Alvarez sank three baskets from the three-point line and came down with four defensive rebounds. The Lady Westerners wrapped up the WTC Classic event on Saturday with two total victories to end the weekend. 

UP NEXT: The Lady Westerners will be on the road for the Blinn Classic on December 6th-7th. Western Texas will take on Western Gulf and Blinn.
