Levelland, TX: Snow across Texas postponed game day from Monday to Tuesday, but the Lady Westerners returned to action against a tough opponent, falling to No. 5 South Plains College, 82–41, Tuesday night.
Western Texas College (0-21, 0-5) battled defensively throughout the contest against the Lady Texans (16-2, 4-1), forcing turnovers and competing on the glass despite the final score.
Magreth Mhondo and Marissa Garcia led the offensive effort, combining for 18 points on the night.
How we got there
South Plains built momentum early, taking a 49–22 lead into halftime. WTC forced five turnovers in the first half, but foul trouble proved costly, as the Lady Texans capitalized at the free-throw line, going 10-of-15 in the opening two quarters. Shani Johnson paced the Lady Westerners at the break with seven first-half points.
Western Texas continued to compete in the second half, finishing with 17 fourth-quarter points while maintaining defensive pressure until the final horn.
