Lady Westerners Snap 36-Game Skid at Home
Snyder, TX — The drought is over.
The Lady Westerners snapped a 36-game losing streak Thursday night, earning their first win of the season with a 56–43 victory over the Midland College Lady Chaps. Western Texas improves to 1–21 overall and 1–5 in conference play.
The skid dated back to December 10, 2024, and Thursday's win also marked the Lady Westerners' first home victory over a conference opponent since March 4, 2024. Coincidentally, the last time Western Texas defeated Midland College at home was January 29, 2024, when the Lady Westerners earned a 75–56 win.
How We Got There
Western Texas fell behind early, trailing 8–0 at the 5:18 mark of the first quarter, before responding with a decisive 17–0 run to close the period ahead 17–8.
Both teams scored six points apiece in the second quarter, sending the Lady Westerners into halftime with a 23–14 advantage.
In the second half, Western Texas maintained control, preventing Midland from putting together any sustained runs. A late jumper with 1:54 remaining pushed the lead to 53–39, sealing the victory.

Shani Johnson led all scorers with 15 points, adding five rebounds.
Kynli Hart finished with 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Katy Elder added 10 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc, while grabbing five rebounds and recording two steals.
