SNYDER, TX — The Lady Westerners (1–27, 1–11) dropped a 68–36 decision to South Plains College (20–5, 8–4) Thursday night in conference play.
South Plains created separation late in the opening quarter, turning a quick start into a 14–5 advantage and maintaining control the rest of the way. The Lady Texans shot an efficient 48.1 percent from the field (26-of-54), while Western Texas finished at 31.0 percent (13-of-42) and was held scoreless from beyond the arc (0-of-11).
Kendall Carlock led the Lady Westerners with 14 points, connecting on 5-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-5 at the free-throw line. She added four rebounds and four steals in 26 minutes of action. Yulissa Yebra and Essania Landers each chipped in five points, with Landers grabbing three rebounds off the bench.
Katy Elder contributed four points and two steals, while Kaley O'Neal added four points and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Kynli Hart paced the team on the boards with five rebounds, including four offensive rebounds. Marissa Garcia dished out a team-high four assists.
The Lady Westerners will be back in action March 2, traveling to Midland, Texas, to face Midland College at 5:45 p.m. as conference play continues.
