Bio

In first year at WTC Purswell finished with eight of nine sophomores moving on to play at the four year level.  Also a team GPA of 3.62 and 12 of 13 players making first or second team all-academic WJCAC.  The team also saw four players as NJCAA Academic All Honors and honorable mention all-conference.   In a season where the Lady Westerners lone win was against Midland the played the number three strength of schedule and played 3 of the NJCAA tournaments final four teams.  The Lady Westerners also graduated all nine sophomores.

A native of Borger, Texas, Purswell brings over a decade of junior college coaching experience. He most recently served as head women’s basketball coach at Coastal Bend College (2017–2025), leading the program to its first-ever regional tournament appearance and four total regional berths. He also holds the most career wins at Coastal Bend College.  His tenure produced 12 All-Conference players, nine NJCAA Academic Honorees, and a graduation rate above 90%, with over 20 athletes advancing to four-year programs.

Purswell also coached both women’s and men’s teams at Frank Phillips College (2013–2017), contributing to multiple winning seasons and mentoring two NJCAA Academic All-Americans.

He holds a Master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University–Irvine, a Bachelor’s from West Texas A&M, and an Associate degree from Frank Phillips College, where he was a decorated student-athlete.
