Western Texas Drops First Home Game

Snyder, TX - Lady Westerners soccer hosted their first regular season home game of the 2024 season against the Dallas Brookhaven Bears, 1-4. 

Western Texas Women's soccer have opened their season with four consecutive road games to begin the season. The Westerners began their season in Sterling, Colorado when the team fell to Northeastern Junio, 1-4. Two days later, the team bounced back with a tough fought tie at Lamar Community, 2-2. To start September, the team traveled to Mesquite, TX for two games. Western Texas played a competitive high scoring game with Dallas Eastfield. The game ended by one score in the final three minutes, 3-4. The next day, the team lost to Louisiana State University-Eunice, 1-3.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Brookhaven Bears were greeted with a beautiful day in Snyder Texas. The two teams came out aggressive with opportunities on both nets early. The Westerners had healthy ball control to begin the game but were not able to find the net. With 22 minutes left in the first half, the Bears were fouled and given a free kick a few yards outside of the box. In a great strike, the ball went by a diving Lady Westerner keeper to take the first lead of the game, 0-1. 

The battle for possession continued throughout the first half. Western Texas found themselves in the Bears territory. On a foul, Lisset Onofre set up and booted the ball to the far post. In a beautiful shot, it tipped off the Brookhaven keeper's glove and into the net to knot the score a goal apiece, 1-1. Just two minutes later, the Bears made many attempts on the Westerners' goal. Eight minutes left, it was only a Brookhaven shooter and Karmen Coronado in net. In a great decision, Coronado was able to preserve the tie with a deflection save. Both teams exchanged shots on goal as the first half came to a close. 

To begin the second half, Brookhaven immediately pressured and scored to break the score, 1-2. The aggressiveness by the Bears continued as they kept the ball on the Westerners goal. On yet another free kick outside of the box, Brookhaven extended their lead, 1-3. The Bears separated from the Westerners in the second half with a fourth and final goal to secure their road win, 1-4. The Lady Westerners suffered their fourth loss on the season in their first regular season home matchup. 

UP NEXT: Lady Westers women's soccer will begin conference play at Cisco College on Friday, September 13th. Kickoff will be at 11am.
