Garcia, Alcantar Break Records as Westerners Compete at Charlie Thomas Invite
College Station, TX — The Western Texas College men's and women's track & field teams traveled to College Station to compete at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
Women's Highlights
Sprints
Freshman Alliah Baker led the women's sprint group with an outstanding performance, clocking 7.55 in the 60 meters and adding a 23.76 in the 200 meters.
Shagay Sheppy ran 60 meters in 7.70, while Daynea Colstock ran 7.88, and Charlize Fraser posted 8.02.
Quarter Mile
In the 400 meters, Charlize Fraser recorded a 56.34, with Shagay Sheppy close behind at 56.69.
Distance
Freshman Cierra Garcia set a new school record in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:17.83.
Men's Highlights
Sprints & Hurdles
Freshman J'mar Saunders led the way in the short sprints, running 6.88 in the 60 meters and posting a 21.52 in the 200 meters.
Shamer Blake recorded a 21.70 in the 200 and an 8.14 (NJCAA) in the 60-meter hurdles, while Shevon Depass added a 7.99 (NJCAA) in the hurdles and ran 22.50 in the 200.
Quarter Mile
Dashaun Lezama paced the Westerners in the 400 meters with an NJCAA-qualifying 48.21. Jayden Palacios with a time of 48.81 a season best.
Middle Distance
In the 800 meters, Gage Harris recorded an NJCAA mark of 1:55.95, while Seanpaul Simmonds crossed in 1:58.24.
Distance
Freshman John Alcantar continued his strong season by setting another school record, posting a time of 8:35.62 in the 3,000 meters. Kyle Trantham finished with a time of 4:23.38 a peseronal best and Dan Ortiz finished with a time of 4:27.73 also a personal best.
Field Events
Julius Dawkins led the field group with a top triple jump of 14.21 meters (46'7.5").
