Snyder, TX– The Lady Westerners dropped a three-set match to the No. 16-ranked Frank Phillips Lady Plainsmen on Wednesday night, falling 21–25, 17–25, and 22–25.
In the opening set, Western Texas came out fast with a 6–2 lead and continued to control the pace, holding an 11–9 advantage. Frank Phillips rallied to tie it at 13–13, and the set tightened again at 21–21. The Lady Plainsmen scored back-to-back points to go up 23–21 and, after a WTC timeout, closed out the set with the final two points.
Set two followed a similar script, as the Lady Westerners built a 12–9 lead before Frank Phillips tied it at 12–12. The Plainsmen then used a scoring run to move ahead 20–15, going into the first timeout, and carried the momentum to finish the set 25–17.
In the third, WTC fell behind 9–5 but responded with a 5–0 run to tie it at 10–10. The Lady Westerners trailed 15–11 at the timeout, then stormed back to knot it again at 17–17 and later took a 19–17 lead. The teams were tied once more at 20–20 before the Lady Plainsmen surged ahead 23–21 and closed out the match.
Western Texas totaled 38 kills on the night, hitting .167 as a team. Anayah Sinclair led the offense with 10 kills, while Aubrie Frazier added 7 and Savhanna Thompson finished with 6. Setter Sydney Roberts dished out 14 assists, with Teodora Shukuloska adding 11. Lady Westerners recorded four aces from the service line—two each from Thompson and Samantha Loera. Defensively, WTC collected 35 digs, led by Zenaida Murillo and Samantha Williams with seven apiece. At the net, the team notched four block assists from Cam, Thompson, Frazier, and Ludyga.
