Austin, TX — The Western Texas College Lady Westerners softball team traveled to Austin on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against the No. 11 Galveston College Whitecaps. The games marked the start of a four-game road stretch during a busy eight-game week for the Lady Westerners.
Game One
Both teams were strong in the circle, but Galveston's offense proved just enough in a 3–0 win.
The Whitecaps struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a run to take an early 1–0 lead, then added another run in the second to extend the advantage. Galveston would tack on one more run later to secure the shutout victory.
Madison Roberts started in the circle for the Lady Westerners, going the distance and recording 18 outs. The right-hander allowed six hits and three runs over six innings while striking out three and walking four.
Offensively, Briyana Medina and Karissa Juarez each recorded a hit to lead Western Texas at the plate.
Game Two
In game two, Western Texas fell 8–2 as the Whitecaps built an early lead and never looked back.
Galveston opened the scoring in the first inning after a Lady Westerner error, a steal of home, and a double down the left-field line each brought in a run. The Whitecaps continued their momentum in the second inning with an inside-the-park home run that scored two runs, followed by a triple and a single that each drove in a run.
Ithalia Ozuna started in the circle for Western Texas, allowing eight hits and seven runs (four earned) over three innings while striking out one and walking two.
Janie Rodriguez and Karissa Juarez each drove in a run for the Lady Westerners, who finished with seven hits in the game.
Up Next
The Lady Westerners continue their road trip on Thursday with a doubleheader against Navarro College in Corsicana starting at noon.
